The Patriots introduced newly signed wide receiver Danny Amendola in a press conference on Friday. Amendola was brought in to replace former Patriots receiver Wes Welker, who signed with Denver on Wednesday.

Amendola has drawn comparisons as a younger, 27-year-old version of Welker. Both players attended Texas Tech and went undrafted before moving on to become successful NFL wideouts.

"As far as comparisons to Wes, I've been hearing it for a long time," Amendola said to ESPNBoston.com. "I watched him play the whole time -- he's a great player, he's had a number of Pro Bowls and done a lot of good things to help the Patriots win. One of my main goals is to fill my role and try to do what I can to now help the Patriots win as well."

Amendola caught 63 passes in 2012 with 666 yards and three touchdowns. The four-year wideout has 196 career receptions and seven career touchdowns.
