The Atlanta Falcons and free agent running back Steven Jackson agreed to a contract on Thursday, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Jackson is the Rams all-time leading rusher with 10,135 career yards and has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in eight straight season.

Jackson voided his contract with the St. Louis Rams on Thursday, making the 29-year-old an unrestricted free agent. The former all-pro back told Sirius XM NFL Radio last week that being a starter was the most important factor in deciding which team to sign with.

"For where I'm at, going into Year 10, I'm not ready to step back and just become a primary backup or a reduced role guy to be part of a running back by committee," Jackson said. "I still have a lot left in my tank. I still have a lot left to offer to a team. We're not talking about someone that's in Year 12 or 13."

The Falcons fill their void at running back left after the team released Michael Turner. Turner was Atlanta's primary since joining the team in 2008.
