The New York Yankees are running out of single digits. The Bronx Bombers announced on Thursday that longtime manager Joe Torre's No. 6 will be retired this summer while shortstop Derek Jeter's No. 2 -- which will undoubtedly be retired soon as he plays his final season - will become the only number in Nos. 1-9 that hasn't been retired yet by the Yankees.

Along with his number being retired, Torre, Rich "Goose" Gossage, Tino Martinez and Paul O'Neill also will be honored with plaques in Monument Park.
Torre is forever enshrined in Yankees lore after managing the team for 12 seasons and guiding the Bombers to World Series triumphs in 1996 and a three-peat from 1998-2000. Torre ended his tenure with the Yankees on rough terms in 2007 but the sides have made amends and Torre currently serves as the vice president of baseball operations for Major League Baseball.

Torre, who also led the Yankees to six American League pennants during his time in the Bronx, will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer as well.
Torre's number will be retired on Aug. 23 during a ceremony in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium when the team hosts the Chicago White Sox, according to ESPN.
Torre's No. 6 is the latest single-digit number to be retired by the Yankees along with the likes of Billy Martin (1), Babe Ruth (3), Lou Gehrig (4), Joe DiMaggio (5), Mickey Mantle (7), Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey (8) and Roger Maris (9).
Jeter, who has captained the Yankees since 2003, will likely have his No. 2 join the ranks as soon as next year as Mariano Rivera (42) had his number retired after his final season, though the number is retired throughout baseball for Jackie Robinson. Jeter announced in February that 2014 is his final season.
Martinez will be honored on June 21 as part of Old-Timers' Day while Gossage will have a ceremony the following day. O'Neil's ceremony will be Aug. 9.
The Yankees said that the ceremonies will be part of a series that will include Bernie Williams in 2015, but haven't released details on what capacity Williams will be honored in.
In his 12 years with the Yankees, Torre was 1,173-767 at the helm. After 1,942 years as Yankees manager, his number will be retired.
