The San Diego Chargers announced Thursday that they have cut veteran linebacker Takeo Spikes. The 36-year-old addressed his release via twitter to confirm his interest in playing his 16th NFL season in 2013.

"Thank you to the @chargers, Spanos family & fans for the opportunity to represent the organization. I look forward to this upcoming season," Spikes wrote. The Chargers saved $3 million on the salary cap with the move and now have $10 million in space.

Spikes started all 32 games while playing for San Diego the past two seasons. The veteran linebacker had 78 tackles last season and in his career has registered 1,423 tackles, 29 sacks, 19 interceptions and 15 forced fumbles.

A two-time all-pro with Buffalo in 2003 and 2004, Spikes has played for four teams, but has never made the playoffs during his NFL career. According to ESPN Stats & Information, his 219 regular-season games played are the most in NFL history without ever making the playoffs.
