There were reports circulating that the new WWE United States Champion Sheamus fell asleep during the Extreme Rules 2014 pay-per-view Sunday night while he was serving as a special guest on the pre-show panel with Josh Matthews, Booker T and Alex Riley, and "The Celtic Warrior" took to Twitter to deny these claims.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, there was a report circulating that Sheamus fell asleep during the live show while sitting and watching a match from the panel where he was serving as a special guest because he didn't have a match on the card.

The report states that fans seated near where the panel was set up noticed that Sheamus appeared to start nodding off during the handicap match that pitted Alexander Rusev against R-Truth and Xavier Woods, and the fans started chanting for him to wake up.

Sheamus Set To Turn Heel After European Tour This Month

"The Celtic Warrior" took to his official Twitter account to deny the claims:

Sheamus was very much awake during Monday Night RAW this week as he won a 20-man over-the-top-rope battle royal to become the new WWE United States Champion after Dean Ambrose was forced to put his belt up for grabs by The Authority.

The WWE announced that Sheamus will make his first defense of the U.S. Title on this Friday's SmackDown, though his opponent has yet to be revealed. One possibility is Ambrose because he is due a rematch and it could very well be him.

It was reported this week that Sheamus is slated to turn heel soon as the WWE is looking to revamp his character. Sheamus' heel turn is expected to occur later this month after the WWE completes its European tour from May 14 through May 25.

The company doesn't want to turn him heel before the tour because with Sheamus being a native of Ireland the organization realizes he'll receive favorable reactions from the European crowd.

The WWE likely gave Sheamus the United States Championship in preparations for his heel turn so that he can be a heel champion once the tour is complete.
