Sports World News will be covering the Oscar Pistorius murder trial from beginning to end with constant updates. Follow us @SportsWN and me @edler56 for the beat on all the actions in the case. Now a brief background and new information:
On the morning of February 14, 2013 Oscar Pistorius was taken into police custody for shooting and killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his Pretoia home in South Africa. Pistorius maintains that he did shoot and kill Steenkamp, but only after he mistook her for an intruder.
Pistorius was formally charged with murder in a Pretoria court and granted bail on Feb. 19. Now in the trial that is in it’s 10th day as the prosecution showed pictures from the crime scene for the first time in open court. Pistorius appeared visibly shaken, looked away often and had to be comforted by a member of his family at one point.

The trial is far from over, but the prosecution is attempting to get hard answers on the unanswered questions of the trial, including the noises witnesses heard and the nature of Pistorius scream.
Witnesses to the shooting remember hearing loud bangs that all believed to be gun shots. The consensus of the witnesses is that they heard two distinct sets of bangs with screams in the middle. The Defense stated that the second set of bangs was Pistorius breaking down the bathroom door when he realized who he was shooting at, but two of the witnesses maintain that the bangs were in too quick a succession to have been Pistorius swinging a bat.
The other question that could make or break the trial is the tone and nature of Pistorius’ scream. Witnesses have testified that they heard a man and woman shouting at each other and screams before any bangs. The prosecution believes this was the shouts that led to Pistorius shooting Steenkamp out of anger. There was then a second set of screams that the witnesses recount as being woman sounding “petrified.” The defense believes this was Pistorius screaming when he realized what he had done to what he believed to be an intruder. Former girlfriends have testified that Pistorius sounds very much like a man when he screams.
