The New England Patriots have signed All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis to a one-year deal worth $12 million. The arms race that is New England vs. Denver continues to shake the groundwork of the NFL and the rest of the teams just wait and watch to see what happens next.
Looking at this deal you can take multiple points of view. I believe that this is a direct shot to Denver that they only need Revis for one season because Peyton Manning is aging quickly. I believe the Patriots front office is much smarter than the rest of the league and this deal shows it.
Where did we predict Revis would land?
Getting Revis at $4 million less than he would have made in Tampa Bay, but would anyone other than the Patriots gotten that deal? Credit the connection Bill Belichick has to both the Jets and Greg Schiano for the quick turn over for Revis. Schiano coached Revis in 2013 and knows more about his current shape than anyone and the Jets are, of course, the hated division rival the Patriots play twice a yea. Revis is coming off his second season since his ACL surgery so look for him to be much improved from his still above average 2013.
The only question renaming is what will theses teams do next to further their campaign toward Super Bowl XLVIII.
