Kenyon Martin Rips Lakers' G-League Rumors for Bronny James: 'It’s a Mistake!'

Being the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, Bronny is expected to work harder than his dad. While the youngster is slowly feeling the basketball game inside the league, speculations of his G-League sendoff are circulating.

However, a former NBA star believes that sending Bronny to the G-League will be a mistake. Perhaps he has some warning about this rumor.

G League Speculations

Things are not that bright for young and raw rookie Bronny James, who had appeared in all five preseason games for his team. The young lad has been averaging 1.6 points and 1.2 rebounds per game while successfully shooting at 20.0% from the field, according to Sports Illustrated.

His early performance sparks speculations that Bronny might spend major time in the G League with the South Bay Lakers this season. According to former NBA star Kenyon Martin, he thinks sending Bronny to the G League is not the smart decision in any way.

"I think it's a mistake for them to send him to the G League... Heaven forbid he go down there and not play well at all... Day one, you're making more money than everybody in the G League... They're going at you. Them dudes is 28, 29, 30. They got their grown man strength and they going to be out there trying to dog walk that young boy," Martin spoke about Bronny on Gil's Arena.

Bronny's Massive Game vs. Warriors

Amid G-League rumors, Bronny James stamped his presence in his first NBA preseason start by putting 17 points on the scoreboard with four rebounds, three steals, an assist, and a block against the Golden State Warriors. That was despite missing 10 out of his 17 shots and four out of five 3-pointers, according to CBS Sports.

Bronny was cocky in his assault of the basket as he showed off his lob dunk, an acrobatic layup, and proficient dribbling in transition. He took on almost a full-strength Warriors side minus Stephen Curry in an even more impressive outing for the Lakers in a 132-74 blowout.

Underlying his performance, the value of scoring, and how long time it will take him to become as good as his dad- are questions in the debate on Twitter.

Lakers coach JJ Redick said they prioritize patience because Bronny is doing fine.

"Scoring is important, but each game is an opportunity for growth and improvement for Bronny," Redick said.

Redick complimented Bronny's maturity and ease of dealing with the burden of being LeBron James' son.

Who is Kenyon Martin?

Kenyon Martin was Cincinnati's first overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft. Although he never made an All-Star team, Martin enjoyed a 15-year career, playing for a few teams, including the New Jersey Nets and Denver Nuggets, before stepping off the floor following the 2014-15 season with Milwaukee.
