The Argentina men's national football team will miss two vital figures in their final group-stage game of the 2024 Copa America against Peru.

The game is scheduled for Saturday, June 29, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, home of the NFL's Miami Dolphins.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has been handed a one-game suspension by CONMEBOL's disciplinary committee for "delays in the resumption of play."

This penalty is due to Argentina's late return to the pitch after halftime during their first two group-stage games against Canada and Chile.

The 46-year-old tactician can still attend the game at Hard Rock Stadium but will not be permitted to enter the locker room to coach or be on the sidelines.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) will also be fined $15,000 for the infraction.

Former national team defender Walter Samuel, currently an assistant coach, will assume the role of coach for Argentina.

Lionel Messi to miss game vs Peru

Meanwhile, star Lionel Messi will also miss the game against Peru due to a right leg injury.

The national team captain and all-time leading goalscorer was kicked by Chile defender Gabriel Suazo in the first half of their last game and received treatment on his right thigh.

The 37-year-old is considered day-to-day as Argentina has already secured a spot in the tournament's knockout stage.
