Tom Brady is still celebrating his fifth Super Bowl championship but the New England Patriots are busy reloading the team to win another one next year. However, Pulitzer-winning journalist Bill Speros believes that Brady has a year or two before he leaves New England.
According to Speros' piece with The Boston Globe, the Patriots are preparing for the future and it might not include Tom Brady. He thinks that Bill Belichick will show the world that no one is safe from the "Patriot Way".
"The real world teaches us Brady's mortality looms larger and moves closer with each passing day. As does his final day in a Patriots uniform," Speros added.
On the other hand, Max Kellerman of ESPN almost has the same opinion during a recent episode of First Take. He also believes that Tom Brady is will retire at the end of the season when he wins his sixth Super Bowl title. Kellerman added that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is also going off to the sunset with Brady.
It should be noted that these are just opinions and speculations on the part of the two well-known sports journalists. However, it's not hard to see why Tom Brady will retire if wins his sixth Super Bowl championship, as well as accomplishing the perfect season next year.
The Patriots are built to win in the next several years with all the moves they have made. As pointed out by Speros, New England is not going to pay a lot of money to keep both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo after the 2018 season.
If the Patriots trade Garoppolo, they will stick with Tom Brady until his contract ends in 2019. But if they keep the 25-year-old backup QB, Bill Belichick and the Patriots are preparing for life after the greatest player of all time retires from the game.
But in the meantime, the Patriots are more focused on retaining the Super Bowl championship more than anything. They have made the biggest moves of the offseason including re-signing linebacker Dont'a Hightower, signing free agent CB Stephon Gilmore and acquiring WR Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints.
