Tanking Games Not New York Knicks' Biggest Problem, Its Phil Jackson And The Triangle

After a close loss to a depleted Philadelphia 76ers team, the New York Knicks is faced with a dilemma of whether to shoot for the playoffs or improve their draft lottery chances. Improving the latter  would mean the Knicks should tank the remainder of their games this NBA season.

The New York Knicks tanking talks has officially started with a few more games left in the season and the Knicks currently standing 12th in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Knicks is 3.5 games behind the Pistons, which currently holds the eighth spot in the East.

The thought of New York Knicks tanking the rest of the season seems to be a good idea given that the upcoming NBA draft is loaded with talents, especially in the point guard position. However, according to New York Post, Carmelo Anthony prefers to win games and dismissed even the idea of the New York Knicks tanking games.

The offseason will be a busy one for the New York Knicks, which will not only have to find unpolished gems in the 2017 NBA draft pool but will also try to land players via the free agency market or trade. The New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony trade talks will once again come up as Phil Jackson will reportedly explore options to get rid of Anthony.

The New York Knicks to tank or not debate may not be the biggest question that the Knicks should answer this season. Its not even to retain Carmelo Anthony or not, the biggest question that the Knicks should answer is whether or not Phil Jackson and his triangle offense should stay.

A number of Knicks players have already voiced out their dismay about the organization's focus on the triangle offense. Maybe, instead of tanking games and moving on from Carmelo Anthony, the New York Knicks is better off thinking of moving on from the Phil Jackson experiment.
