Tony Romo Likely To Be Released By Dallas Cowboys, $24.7Million Contract Makes Trade Difficult

Tony Romo may not start the next NFL season with the Dallas Cowboys. A lot of NFL speculations have been thrown around Tony Romo and his fate with the Cowboys lately, but all of these reports point out to the possibility that the quarterback will no longer be a Cowboy next season.

A Tony Romo - Jerry Jones split is inevitable, this is the current buzz surrounding the Dallas Cowboys. Aside from a recent report from Fox Sports that the quarterback is simply pressuring the team to retain him as its starting quarterback next season, all reports point out to Tony Romo actually leaving the Cowboys before the NFL season starts.

According to CBS Sports, Tony Romo is more likely to be released by the Cowboys than to be dealt in a trade. Once that happens, the quarterback will be the prized possession in this year's NFL free agency market.

Romo is owed $24.7million next season, this is why it will be difficult for the Dallas Cowboys to look for a suitable trade partner. Though Romo is reportedly open for renegotiating his contract, any team in the league will not take that risk.

Even if Dallas persuade another NFL team to take Romo with the hopes of the quarterback renegotiating his contract, the Cowboys may not really get good players in return because of Romo's suspect clavicle. With this, it will be more feasible for the Dallas Cowboys to release Tony Romo than actually explore trade options.

Tony Romo's impending free agency or trade is an offshoot of Dak Presscott's impressive stint as the Cowboy's starting quarterback. Dak's impressive 2016 season may have caused the Dallas team to finally admit that Romo's stay with the Cowboys may already be overdue, this is despite the fact that Jerry Jones openly calls Romo as his favorite player.
