The NBA trade deadline is just more than a week away and contenders are looking for ways to improve their roster heading into the second half of the season. One of the names being linked to NBA trade rumors is Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons.
According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the Pistons have started exploring the trade market for Drummond, as well as point guard Reggie Jackson. Lowe pointed out the Drummond will unlikely get traded but it's possible that one team gives them a very tempting offer.
The Boston Celtics are the second-best team in the Eastern Conference and they also have the best collection of draft picks and young players to pull off a blockbuster trade. They have been part of many NBA trade rumors this past season for players such as DeMarcus Cousins, Carmelo Anthony, and Jimmy Butler.
Now that Drummond is part of the NBA trade rumors at the most critical part of the season, should the Celtics go all in and acquire the All-Star Center? But first, let's take a look at the situation of both the Celtics and Pistons.
As mentioned above, the Celtics are the second-best team in the East. Isaiah Thomas is playing like an MVP with great role players surrounding him. They are one additional All-Star away from giving the Cleveland Cavaliers problems come playoff time.
On the other hand, the Pistons are barely holding on to the eighth and final playoff spot with a 27-30 record. They have a realistic shot of making the playoffs but teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, and Charlotte Hornets are just right behind them.
The Celtics should make the trade since the window of opportunity to beat the Cavs is open, per The Sports Blaze. Kevin Love is out for six weeks after knee surgery. LeBron James and the rest of the Cavs will surely not get their rest and it could be a big factor in the playoffs.
Drummond is the player the Celtics need as he is one of the best rebounders in the NBA. The Celtics currently rank among the worst rebounding teams in the league. Also, Al Horford could slide into the stretch four position and Thomas can create more havoc by driving inside.
For the possible trade offer, the Celtics can offer Marcus Smart or Jaylen Brown, Tyler Zeller, Amir Johnson and the 2017 Brooklyn Nets first-round pick. It makes sense for both teams since Drummond fills a need in Boston while the Pistons get their franchise player in the draft.
It should be noted that there are no reports just yet confirming the Celtics are interested in Drummond. But since Celtics general manager Danny Ainge is a smart man, he should at least make an inquiry.
