Cleveland Cavaliers Trade Rumors: Ricky Rubio To Cavs For Iman Shumpert

Ricky Rubio to Cleveland Cavaliers trade looks good on paper. The Cleveland Cavaliers lacks a playmaker for their second unit and Rubio perfectly fits the bill.

A report from Yahoo Sports revealed that the Spanish point guard is being actively shopped by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The report suggests that the Wolves has offered Rubio alongside four-year veteran Shabazz Muhammad to several NBA teams.

LeBron James has reportedly asked the Cavaliers to add a playmaker on their team. The recent addition of Kyle Korver, although it gave the Cavs a boost in other parts of their game, certainly does not make up for the team's lack of playmakers.

LeBron and Kyrie Irving have been sharing playmaking duties for most parts of this season. The 82-game grind of the regular season may be too much for Lebron and Irving despite the occasional rest days.

Rubio who is currently posting a 7.9 assists per game average this season may just be the playmaker that LeBron has been asking for. Rubio's career assists average currently stands at 8.3 per game.

However, to make the trade happen, the Cavaliers has to let go of Iman Shumpert. Shumpert, one of the Cavs' best perimeter defenders, will be a good addition to the young core of the Timberwolves. According to FoxSports, the Wolves has openly coveted to get the services of Shumpert.

The Timberwolves has been looking for veteran leadership to guide the young but promising core of Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine and the being groomed starting point guard Chris Dunn. Shumpert can also fill the starting position that LaVine left due to a season-ending injury.

Aside from his playmaking abilities, Rubio can also defend his position and is very good at stealing the ball. A Ricky Rubio Cavaliers trade will give the defending champion a certified playmaker and another tool in their search for a back to back title.
