"I actually was expecting and planning for a five-round decision," Jung said. "But I thought if I can catch the knockout or submission, then even better." This victory can be considered special because Bermudez had won 9 out of 11 previous fights.
Jung's last fight before he went to his country was against Jose Aldo (26-2) for featherweight belt at UFC 163 in the year 2013. It was on the same card where present women's bantamweight champions Amanda Nunes made her debut as reported by ESPN.
This was Jung's first win since May 2012. He is 29 now and was ranked 9th in the featherweight division. By this victory, his hopes of featherweight gold have risen. "My goal is always to be the champion, and I think this fight has put me back in the game," Jung said.
It was difficult for Bermudez as he had no recent film of Jung to look at to prepare himself although Bermudez said he was happy with his performance. "I put myself in his shoes," Bermudez said. "If I was away from the sport for three years, man, I would be so thirsty, so hungry to get after it."
