Carmelo Anthony Trade Rumors: Knick Star Willing to Waive No-Trade Clause to Join Boston Celtics

Carmelo Anthony has been the center of many trade rumors in the past couple of weeks. The New York Knicks are struggling this season and they could be heading to a rebuild. The latest rumors have linked Anthony to a trade to the Boston Celtics.

The Knicks have already tried trading Anthony to the Cleveland Cavaliers last week in exchange for Kevin Love. However, the Cavs turned down the offer since they are looking for a playmaker and not a scorer. The Knicks have also offered the nine-time All-Star to the Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers.

It should be noted that Anthony has to waive his no-trade clause first before a deal becomes official. According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the Knicks are going to trade the 32-year-old superstar and they are very interested in some of Boston's young players.

However, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is reportedly not interested in acquiring Anthony from New York. On the other hand, Celtics head coach Brad Stevens is open to adding "Melo" to the team.

The Celtics are currently second in the Eastern Conference and they can easily take over first place from the struggling Cavaliers. Adding Anthony and pairing him with Al Horford and Isaiah Thomas will make Boston a very dangerous team in the playoffs.

An NBA source has also revealed that Anthony is interested in joining the Celtics and he is willing to waive his no-trade clause, per NESN. Despite pledging loyalty to the Knicks, Anthony has no other choice but to accept a trade if Phil Jackson decides to rebuild.

The Knicks were built to win but they are very inconsistent at the moment. They have struggled defensively and it is better to start from scratch. Anthony could be traded while Derrick Rose will likely leave this summer.

Kristaps Porzingis is the future of the Knicks and the team is better off building around him. Nevertheless, Anthony is still the star in New York unless he gets traded to the Celtics, Clippers or even the Cavaliers.
