During Kobe Bryant Era, Los Angeles Lakers were a great team. They reached the playoffs in 16 of Bryant's first 17 seasons, winning five NBA Championships along the way. But when he suffered various injuries, forcing him to miss 139 out of 246 games, the Lakers did not make the playoffs for three straight seasons.
Now that the Black Mamba is officially retired from playing hoops, it looks like the Lakers will continue its playoff drought this season. After starting the season at 10-10 in their first 20 games, they now lost 23 of their last 29 games. At 16-33 win-loss record, they are now the worst team in the Western Conference.
At the start of the season, it seems like the Lakers need to upgrade their roster because they are chasing for a playoff spot in the West. Now that the NBA season is more than halfway finished, it looks like the Lakers' playoff hopes are slowly dissipating.
What the Lakers need to do right now is to trade some of its key players for a lottery pick. And according to BASKETBALL INSIDERS, the Lakers could give away Lou Williams to the Sacramento Kings.
At 18-27 win-loss record, the Kings are currently at the tenth spot in the West. They are just 1.5 games behind the eighth place Denver Nuggets and reaching the playoffs is very much possible. The team is lead by All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins, who is one of the best centers in the NBA right now. But for the Kings to make the playoffs, they need an additional scorer to help Cousins in the scoring load.
Lou Williams might just what the Kings are looking for. Williams is having his best scoring season of his career with the Lakers this year. In 49 games this season, he is averaging 18.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 24.3 minutes of playing time, as per BASKETBALL REFERENCE.
Although Williams is a little bit old, it is undeniable that he is still a very good scorer. And with the Kings having a 10-year playoffs drought, they need to do something to upgrade their roster so that they could have a better chance in reaching the playoffs this season. So, will the Sacramento Kings pursue Lou Williams?
