C.C. Sabathia Weight Loss: Sabathia Says He's More Toned But Looks Noticeably Slimmer [VIDEO]

Maybe for C.C. Sabathia, black clothing is just a slimming color.

Media reports are passing around a photo that Amber Sabathia, wife of the New York Yankees star pitcher, took of the two at a wedding over the weekend and posted to her Instagram account.

According to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, a friend of C.C. Sabathia estimated that the pitcher has lost about 40 pounds. But Sabathia himself texted Rosenthal, the writer said, and revealed that he weighs the same as he did last season, at about 290 pounds but has just worked out during the offseason to "tone" his body.

"I'm actually the same weight as I was last year, just a little more toned and a lot more strong," said Sabathia, who has been working with his trainer, T.J. Lopez, according to FoxSports.com. "This is the first offseason I was able to weight-train and get stronger and not worry about weight loss.

"I ended the season on the DL (with a strained left hamstring) so I missed the last two weeks, took a week off and started working out in mid-October so I feel great and ready to go. I've been throwing all off-season like I used to do before the elbow surgery (in Oct. 2012) so my arm feels great."

The problem, or the non-problem for the 33-year-old Sabathia, is that the photo does not appear to be of a man weighing anywhere close to 290 pound or looking anywhere close to the body Sabathia has been photographed while wearing his baggy Yankees uniform.

Sabathia is coming off the worst year of his career in 2013. He was 14-13 with a career-high 4.78 earned run average, giving up a career-high 112 earned runs. Harballtalk.NBC.com even suggested that Sabathia looked trimmer in 2013 than he has in previous seasons, and that may have led to his underachieving statistics.
