When Miguel Cotto turned down a lucrative $10 million offer from Golden Boy Promotions to face off with Canelo Alvarez it was pretty clear that his net fight would be against Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez in June. That fight is still expected to be made, but there are a few potential roadblocks in the way.
The first one could've been major, but appears to have been dealt with. According to reports, just two days ago police officers were called to Cotto's home after a domestic disturbance involving his wife. His wife, Melissa Guzman, called the cops but eventually told them there was no violence involved.
Cotto took to Twitter to dispel any rumors. In back-to-back tweets Cotto wrote, "Good Evening, just to let you all know that my lovely wife, children and my self are doing very well...," followed by, "Just differences that happens like in any marriages, the same ones that are all solve and everything is fine. Thank you for the support."

The second is Cotto's apparent insistence on fighting in New York, which was possinbly a sticking point in the negotiations for an Alvarez fight. It is unknown whether or not Martinez has any issues with facing Cotto in an environment where he enjoys a great deal of fan support.
At a recent lunch in Puerto Rico, Cotto said, "I want to go with Martinez. The title is the main goal. We are only waiting on confirmation from his team, and, if all goes well, the fight will happen. The date is June 7, and I would rather fight where my history is, Madison Square Garden. I believe that the fight with Canelo is premature right now. He is 23 years old, and his name will be around for a long time."
Cotto also reiterated that winning Martinez's middleweight championship is a top priority for him. "To be the first Puerto Rican to win titles in four weight divisions would be very tempting to me," Cotto said.
When questioned about moving up in weight yet again, Cotto expressed few reservations about taking on a middleweight. "If you look at the physicality of Martinez, he has never been a true 160-pound fighter," Cotto said. "He's always weighed in at 157, 158 pounds. Rarely does he ever come in at 160. So he's not a real middleweight."
