Hall of Fame forward Julius Erving said if he were a GM or owner starting a team he would not look to New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony.

While marveling at the high-scoring forward's overall talent and skill level, the man revered as "Dr. J" admitted he has some reservations about Anthony's influence as a leader. The former Philadelphia 76ers star shared his views while appearing on an episode of ESPN's Sports Nation show.

Anthony has averaged 26 points and nearly eight rebounds per game over his four Knicks seasons, but the team has struggled mightily in consistently performing as a title-contending franchise.

After winning more than 50-games last season, the Knicks have struggled to a 9-19 start this season and coach Mike Woodson's job is thought to be in grave danger.

Several media outlets now reporting he is seriously considering bolting New York for L.A. when he is eligible to become a free agent this summer, and a few teams reportedly disagree with Dr. J about his viability as a franchise cornerstone.

Kobe Bryant's Lakers and Chris Paul and Blake Griffin's Clippers have already previously expressed interest in landing him.
