"It's huge," Daniel Alfredsson told Mlive.com. "It becomes a mental thing. Winning in overtime last game [3-2 against the Calgary Flames on Thursday] and winning in a shootout I think lessens the grip on the stick the next time around."

Alfredsson is third on the team with 28 points off of nine goals and 19 assists while Pavel Datsyuk has found the twine 14 times and added 15 helpers for 29 points and Henrik Zetterberg has 11 tallies and 19 assists for 30 points. Zetterberg (back) remains sidelined.

The Islanders let a 3-1 third period lead slip and lost to the Anaheim Ducks 5-3 on Saturday night.

"We're not executing in the third period, closing out games and making it hard for other teams," captain John Tavares said per NHL.com. "We have to do a better job in a lot of areas, especially in our defensive zone and in our coverage."

Tavares paces the Islanders with 38 points off of 13 goals and 25 assists while Kyle Okposo has found the back of the net 11 times and added 21 helpers for 32 points and Frans Nielsen has 12 markers and 16 assists for 28 points.

The Islanders will hope to find some more consistency while the Red Wings look to win three straight when these teams hit the ice at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit tonight.
