The New York Jets are again in the news, but not because of a quarterback. This time, however, it is all about running back Breece Hall, whose future with the team is now shrouded in doubt.
With the Jets signaling a committee backfield approach for the 2025 campaign, trade chatter involving the explosive 23-year-old sensation is quickly gaining momentum.
Aaron Glenn's Comments Spark Trade Talk
New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn recently made a telling remark that shook the NFL world. Glenn said he wanted to employ a running back committee system and split snaps among Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis. Though this might sound like a standard approach, it was eyebrow-raising given Hall's position as the team's best offensive weapon, Sports Illustrated reports.
With Hall reaching the last season of his rookie contract and fresh off a statistically disappointing 2024 campaign, the timing of Glenn's comments has only fanned rumors that the Jets could consider trade options.

Insider Weighs In on Breece Hall's Trade Value
As The Athletic's Jets insider Zack Rosenblatt reports, there is logic to trading Hall now, particularly if the team isn't going to re-sign him. Hall's 2025 cap hit is a paltry $4.3 million, so he would be an attractive piece for teams seeking a difference-making running back.
"He's only 23, a legitimate playmaker capable of scoring anytime he touches the ball, he'll be three years removed from ACL surgery in October, and he's become one of the NFL's best pass-catching backs," Rosenblatt pointed out, referencing Hall as one of the NFL's leading pass-receiving backs.
Would a Breece Hall Trade Be Smart for New York?
Rosenblatt used the 2023 D'Andre Swift trade as a possible example. The Lions traded Swift, whose contract was also set to expire this year, for a fourth-round and seventh-round selection.
In the case of Hall, the Jets could ask for a little more because of his potential and flexibility. But with the 2025 NFL Draft coming up, the New York team might also consider drafting Boise State sensation Ashton Jeanty with the seventh-overall selection, further changing the backfield plans for the team.
The conundrum for New York is balancing short-term performance with long-term strategy. The Jets should think about whether trading Hall for draft capital will be worth it in the end. They have plenty of options, though: one is sticking with him for one more year so they could evaluate his play before presenting a new contract, and two, applying the franchise tag.
Jets Likely Motivating Hall For Now
While speculation runs rampant, Rosenblatt thinks Aaron Glenn's words were motivational rather than transactional. The Jets might simply be putting fire in Hall's belly to spark his on-field dominance again. Nevertheless, in the modern-day NFL, off-season talk has a way of becoming front-office reality—and with Hall's clock ticking on his contract, don't be shocked if his name remains in trade rumors.
For Rosenblatt, the Jets shouldn't move Hall to another team.
There's been a lot hubbub about the idea of the Jets trading Breece Hall and drafting Ashton Jeanty. So I wrote about it: the origin of the rumor, why it would happen and why it wouldn't.

(For the record: No, I don't think they should trade him.)https://t.co/tw750J1MRt
