Stephen Curry has proven in front of the Memphis Grizzlies-favored crowd why he's one of the deadliest shooters in today's league. After his 52-point explosion, the Golden State Warriors pulled off a 134-125 win on top of surpassing NBA legend Jerry West in All-Time Scoring leaders.
Curry's fireworks-filled night included 12 three-pointers, two from tying Klay Thompson's single-game NBA record.
Stephen Curry Surpasses Jerry West in Another Scoring Milestone
Though Curry's priority was an immediate one- picking up a vital victory, it didn't prevent him from noticing an important milestone in his career. With his recent scoring binge, Curry moved past the late Jerry West into 25th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list, according to the Los Angeles Times.
West, a Lakers legend and the face of the NBA (the logo), contributed significantly to the shaping of Curry's Warriors dynasty as a special consultant from 2011-2017. His son, Jonnie West, is the Warriors' current senior director of pro personnel.
Curry accepted the burden of surpassing West and vowed to display the game ball in a prominent location.
Last February, the "Babyface Assassin" tied with Michael Jordan for the most number of games with 20 or more points scored by a guard who is over 35 years old.
Curry's Legacy: Pursuing the 30,000-Point Club
Curry stands at 25,205 career points, with no indication of letting up. At age 37, he is still a force to be reckoned with, averaging 24.4 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.1 rebounds this season—figures almost identical to his career averages.
If he continues at this pace for another three seasons, Curry can get close to the elusive 30,000-point plateau. Only eight players have achieved that: LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kevin Durant.
Although James Harden (now 11th on the all-time list) is likely to reach 30,000 first, and DeMar DeRozan is gaining ground behind him, Curry's climb up the scoring ranks continues with momentum.
Speaking of Harden, he joked last year that he would be the number one in the All-Time 3-point list and not Curry.
Steve Kerr Reveals Curry's Secret to His 52-Point Performance
Curry admitted that his winning mentality and focus were the keys to last night's win at FedExForum Arena. However, his coach Steve Kerr appears to know his secret during the historic evening.
As reported by NBC Sports, Kerr told the reporters that the Curry's secret is doing two rounds of golf on his road trip. He joked that it has been helpful for the 37-year-old guard.
