According to sources familiar with the matter, via TMZ Sports, McGregor filed the appeal last Friday, vowing to challenge the verdict. The case stemmed from a complaint made by Ni Lamhain, alias Nikita Hand, which accused McGregor of sexually assaulting her at a hotel after a 2018 Christmas party.

Throughout, McGregor has categorically denied the allegations, asserting his innocence.

After the verdict by the jury in November, he vowed on the spot to appeal, on X (previously Twitter), "On we fight! Justice and truth will prevail! Appeal! Appeal! Appeal!"

Dee Devlin Stands by McGregor Amid Controversy

Though the decision has had significant repercussions for McGregor, among those who stand in his defense is his fiancée, Dee Devlin. She made a post on Instagram in which she defended him and called out Ni Lamhain directly, saying, "My sons will be warned women like you exist in the world."

Despite the legal troubles, McGregor still has the backing of his inner circle, though the case has clearly hurt his career and personal life.

After McGregor was found liable in November, the Ireland jury awarded $250,000 to Ni Lamhain.

Business Deals Take a Hit After Verdict

McGregor's appeal comes as he continues to suffer increased repercussions from the lawsuit. Several of his sponsorship deals have been severely damaged, including endorsement with Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey and the "Hitman" video game series, both of which dropped McGregor after the ruling.

Though McGregor is still a worldwide figure in combat sports, the scandal has tainted his brand. With an appeal underway, the UFC superstar wants to clear his name and proceed.

Earlier this year, McGregor also faced a new lawsuit for sexually assaulting a woman during the 2023 NBA Finals. The plaintiff, Barbara Llanes said that he was confident in the case involving the Irish mixed martial artist.

As per Essentially Sports, McGregor might have a shot to get back in the ring. Dana White supports his BKFC fight and if that's successful, he could return to the octagon soon.

For the next few weeks, we might hear a word from McGregor's camp regarding the appeal that he filed. Point taken, he has to deal with this series of unfortunate events first before he comes back to his sport. In short, he badly needs to clear his name first.
