The much-awaited NBA All-Star Weekend 2025 will be held in San Francisco, with the Golden State Warriors hosting the annual event from Feb. 14-16.
It is the first time in 25 years that the Bay Area has hosted the annual basketball extravaganza, and the league has brought some new innovations to mix things up.
A New All-Star Game Format
One of the most important changes this year is the new All-Star Game format. Gone are the days of two teams; the NBA has opted for a three-team, single-elimination tournament. Basketball greats Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith have each picked eight players for their teams, and the Rising Stars Challenge winner will join them in the tournament, according to CBS Sports.
Semifinal Matchups:
- Kenny's Young Stars vs. Chuck's Global Stars
- Shaq's OGs vs. Candace Parker's Rising Stars
Both semifinal winners clash for the 2025 NBA All-Star Championship. About the scoring system,
all games will be played up to 40 points, and the first team to achieve the mark will be the winner.
No Curry vs. Ionescu Showdown This Year
Fans looking for a rematch between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu in a one-on-one 3-point shootout will be let down. NBA told ESPN that both players couldn't come to an agreement on a format that would set the bar higher than last year's viral showdown.
