Many San Antonio Spurs believe that the team has found its one true pair in De'Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama. However, the team's problem was exposed when they couldn't find a good center to back up the French man.

Jeremy Sochan has been criticized for being unreliable in the paint while Charles Bassey's MCL strain restrained him from playing. Given these, the Spurs have to look for another backup.

The Spurs, however, could capitalize with the former Lakers center who has been waived recently to make up for this issue.

Bismack Biyombo Joins on a 10-Day Contract

To address their depth concerns, the Spurs recently signed veteran center Bismack Biyombo to a 10-day contract. However, he did not see any action in his first game against the Washington Wizards, leaving questions about his potential role moving forward, according to Athlon Sports.

If Biyombo does not prove to be the solution, San Antonio may have to explore other options.

Christian Wood Becomes a Free Agent After Lakers Release

One intriguing possibility for the Spurs is the recently waived center Christian Wood. The Los Angeles Lakers cut Wood to make room for Alex Len, a move that came as no surprise given that Wood has yet to play this season.

Despite his injury history, he could still provide value for a team in need of frontcourt reinforcements. This could also be the opportunity for Wood to redeem his former self when he was a Rockets player, where he averaged 19.1 points and 9.9 rebounds in 109 games.

Would Wood Be a Good Fit in San Antonio?

We know that it will be tough for Wood to bounce back and return to his best statistical season in 2020-21. At the time, he was almost a double-double machine with 21 points and 9.6 boards per game.

His Lakers' stint, however, was a different story, He only scored 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Wood's career was marred with injuries, pushing him to drop over 70 games in just a season.

For the Spurs, adding another body behind Victor Wembanyama, Bassey, and Sandro Mamukelashvili is a necessity. If Biyombo doesn't prove to be the right fit, Wood could be a viable option—assuming he can stay healthy.

Spurs might have a shot with Alex Len. Unfortunately, the Lakers were too early to sign the 7-footer center.

Jahlil Okafor is also a good backup, but the Pacers are the first ones to test his ability—to see if he's now NBA-ready.

Spurs Could Face Competition for Wood

Wood is expected to be fully ready to return after the All-Star Break, and multiple teams, including the Dallas Mavericks, are reportedly interested in signing him.

If the Spurs want to make a move, they will need to act quickly before he is scooped up by another contender.

If Wood is out of the Spurs' equation, Nikola Vucevic could be another option. However, they might give up many assets just to acquire this Montenegrin big man.
