Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is facing an uncertain future as he approaches free agency next month. Despite expressing his love for the team and city, the 26-year-old acknowledges that his fate is out of his hands.
While he will be a free agent soon, there might be some teams who could effectively use him.
Tee Higgins on His Future: 'It's Not in My Hands'
As contract negotiations remain stalled, Higgins is preparing for all possibilities.
"Obviously, we want to build something here in Cincy, but it's not in my hands right now," Higgins told reporters, as quoted by Bleacher Report. "I've got to do what I've got to do, and if that means going to another team, that's what happens."
Higgins' Impressive Season and Expiring Contract
Higgins had an impressive season, finishing with 911 receiving yards, 10 touchdowns—a career-high—and 73 receptions. However, despite his strong performance, the Bengals and Higgins have yet to reach a long-term agreement.
Last season, both sides failed to secure a contract extension, leading Higgins to sign a one-year, $21.8 million deal.
The Bengals ended the season with a 9-8 record, missing the playoffs. With free agency nearing, Higgins is considering his next move.
As of writing, the young football player wants to stay away from the disappointing season performance of the team. And while free agency season is looming for him, he knows that what will happen next outside Cincinnati is out of his control.
Bengals' Offseason Challenges and Key Free Agents
Tee Higgins isn't the only key player facing an uncertain future. Tight end Mike Gesicki, another vital piece of the Bengals' offense, is set to become an unrestricted free agent. He contributed 665 yards and two touchdowns this season.
Higgins emphasized the importance of keeping the team's core together. "Of course, we all want to keep the core pieces intact, including Mike Gesicki," he said. "But again, it's not in my hands. If I have to move on, that's what happens."
With the offseason in full swing, the Bengals face major decisions regarding their roster. If they choose not to extend Higgins, he will likely draw significant interest from other teams in need of a top-tier wide receiver.
For now, Higgins remains focused on taking a break from football before the intense free agency period begins. While he hopes to continue his career in Cincinnati, the decision ultimately rests with the Bengals' front office.
The coming weeks will determine whether Higgins remains a Bengal or takes his talents elsewhere in the NFL.
What Teams Could Get Higgins in Free Agency
According to BVM Sports, five possible teams could make use of Higgins' ability: New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles Chargers.
