Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has been ruled out for the rest of the current season after suffering an injury during United's 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace.

A crying Martínez was stretchered out during the second half of the match after going down, visibly in pain.

A report from Goal, which cites TyCSports, says that the Argentinian tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Martínez is expected to undergo surgery and will be out for a couple of months.

As of press time, Manchester United has not officially confirmed if Martínez did tear his ACL or if he is suffering from a different injury.

News of Martínez's injury quickly spread and reached both fans and fellow players alike.

In a show of support for his former teammate, Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea took to social media to share photos of him and Martínez.

"As always you do things... Like a warrior," his caption read, accompanied by a red heart emoji.
