Miami Heat player Terry Rozier is being investigated in relation to the illegal betting scheme that resulted in Jontay Porter's lifetime ban.

Federal investigators are probing suspicious wagers on Rozier's performance while he was still playing for the Charlotte Hornets in 2023.

Feds Investigate Suspicious Bets on Rozier's 2023 Hornets Game

According to the Wall Street Journal, authorities suspect that some of the same bettors who were able to capitalize on Porter's fixed games have inside information into Rozier's availability for the March 23, 2023, contest against the New Orleans Pelicans. Those involved reportedly placed a significant amount of money on opposing Rozier for points and rebounds.

The suspicious betting action raised alarms in sportsbooks and resulted in all Rozier-related betting options being removed before the game. It did not take long for the NBA to find out, and it launched an internal review.

Rozier's Sudden Exit Raises Suspicion

Rozier played less than 10 minutes in the March 23 game before leaving with a foot injury. Although there is no direct evidence that his early departure was intentional, the timing has raised suspicions among investigators.

"In March 2023, the NBA was alerted to unusual betting activity related to Terry Rozier's performance in a game between Charlotte and New Orleans," said NBA spokesman Mike Bass in a statement. "The league conducted an investigation and did not find a violation of NBA rules. We are now aware of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York related to this matter and have been cooperating with that investigation."

However, according to TMZ Sports, the NBA concluded that Rozier had not broken any rules of the league despite the unusual circumstances. However, federal authorities from the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York continue to dig deeper into the case.

NBA Cooperating with Federal Investigation

The scandal is growing as the NBA confirmed its full cooperation with federal authorities. Rozier is not yet accused of wrongdoing, but being involved in a case that already led to a lifetime ban for Porter puts him under intense scrutiny.

Jontay Porter's Betting Scandal Shocks the League

The final verdict for Porter is permanent exclusion from the NBA since he admitted that he intentionally lost games for the gamblers.

His plea to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in court surprised many fans. Some of them are not happy with what he did, but others urged the authorities to stop accusing the Miami cager and just provide evidence.

Illegal Betting Scandal Could Jeopardize Rozier's Career

Terry Rozier, now playing under a four-year, $96 million contract with the Miami Heat, remains a high-profile figure in the league. While he has not been charged with any crime or violation, ongoing investigations could impact his future in the NBA.

Who knows, he could not play the game forever—or he will be put on hiatus to serve his jail time
