The MLB offseason always makes the fan excited with reunions of teams and blockbuster signings. The latest report is that veteran closer Kenley Jansen has hinted that he may return to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jansen revealed his intention to rejoin the team where he started his legacy as one of baseball's best closers.
Kenley Jansen's Legacy With Dodgers
Jansen spent over a decade with the Dodgers, from 2010 to 2021, becoming the cornerstone of their bullpen. In that time, he racked up an impressive 350 saves and was part of the team that clinched many playoff berths, including a World Series championship in 2020, per Dodgers Nation.
Jansen, known for his dominant cutter and poise under pressure, is one of the greatest closers in MLB history while wearing Dodger Blue.
Jansen's Recent Performance: Still Bringing the Heat
Since leaving Los Angeles, Jansen has been nothing but phenomenal. In 2022, he went to the Braves and in 2023 to the Red Sox. And although Jansen is already near his 38th birthday, there has been little evidence of him slowing down.
Last season in Boston, he picked up 27 saves with a very respectable 3.29 ERA. He remains one of the more sought-after free-agent relievers out there for that reason alone.
Speaking exclusively to TMZ Sports at LAX, Jansen teased that he is open to reuniting with his OG team.
"I'm ready to play, man. I'm ready to play wherever it is," the 37-year-old Curaçaoan baseball pitcher said.
Dodgers' Current Bullpen Situation
The Dodgers have been quite busy this offseason, signing All-Star reliever Tanner Scott just recently to add to their bullpen. With Scott joining the already very talented bullpen, it remains unclear if the team has even the remotest interest in bringing Jansen back.
However, Jansen's willingness to return to Los Angeles could spark conversations within the organization. A reunion would not only bring experience and depth to their bullpen but also add a familiar face that fans adore.
What Jansen Had to Say
When asked about the possibility of reuniting with the Dodgers, Jansen didn't shy away:
"I'd definitely listen if they called," he told TMZ Sports.
While he does mention the Dodgers are crowded in the bullpen, there is still a wide-open door for him to return should the Dodgers show interest.
Is a Reunion in the Future?
With Jansen's experience, consistency, and postseason success, he becomes a significant asset for any team that wants to be a contender. If the Dodgers need a proven closer to join their bullpen, Jansen might fit the bill.
While nobody knows if LA will reach back, one thing is clear: Kenley Jansen certainly isn't closing the book on his Dodger days, not right now anyway.
And now the offseason drama begins: keeping an eye on what the Dodgers might decide to do, whether they call back one of baseball's all-time greats. The fans and analysts alike can't help but wonder: Will we ever see Jansen back on the mound in Dodger Blue?
