The Las Vegas Raiders have officially fired their head coach, Antonio Pierce, after a disappointing 4-13 season. Team owner Mark Davis announced the decision Tuesday, ending Pierce's tenure just a year after he shed the interim tag.
With Pierce leaving the organization anytime soon, it's about time to find the next replacement.
Antonio Pierce's Rise and Fall with the Raiders
Antonio Pierce became the interim head coach in 2023 after Josh McDaniels was fired midseason, per TMZ Sports. He revitalized the team and finished the season with a respectable 5-4 record. So impressive was the turnaround that Davis appointed him full-time head coach for the 2024 season.
"Antonio grew up a Raiders fan and his Silver and Black roots run deep. We are grateful for his ability to reignite what it means to be a Raider throughout the entire organization. We wish nothing but the best for Antonio and his family in the future," the team said in a statement.
However, the momentum was not enough to carry over. The Raiders could not keep their quarterback game straight and faced a very challenging AFC West schedule. This left them unable to get on a roll, sealing his fate as a fan and management favorite.

Tough Job Market for Raiders Head Coaches
Pierce's firing adds to the Raiders' revolving door of head coaches. Since 2017, the team has gone through six head coaches, making it one of the least secure in the NFL. Whoever takes on the position will have immense pressure to produce instant results in a competitive division.
Speculation Surrounds Mike Vrabel and Others
As for now, one name has already been discussed: Mike Vrabel. The former Tennessee Titans head coach has connections with Raiders part-owner Tom Brady; they worked together during the time of the New England Patriots.
Vrabel has an established record and can be considered for the job. However, nothing has been officially reported yet.
Aside from Vrabel, Robert Saleh, Brian Flores, Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, and Kliff Kingsbury are the other possible candidates who will replace the departing Pierce, Sporting News reports.
For Raiders, stability would be a byword in searching for yet another transition. This would be the incoming head coach of a talented roster that has become inconsistent and how to turn it around into a team with one proud yet fading legacy.
