Miami Dolphins wide receiver rookie Grant DuBose almost met his end during Sunday's Houston Texans game.
Just at the start of the third quarter, DuBose was rushed and collided with Texans corner Calen Bullock while making a catch from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The massive hit was more than enough to leave any fan in a state of frenzy as the seventh-rounder lay motionless.
Quick Response by Medical Staff at On-Field Collision
Medical personnel immediately ran to DuBose's aid, treating him for over 10 minutes. They reportedly had to cut off his jersey and remove his helmet. TMZ Sports writes that the scene left Dolphins players visibly shaken, with many gathering near the sideline in prayer for their injured teammate.
DuBose was eventually stretchered off the field to be transported to a nearby hospital. To date, news indicates that he is in stable condition, thus sending a sigh of relief from all quarters - the fans and the team members, among others.
"This is the longest I've ever seen a game delayed because of an injury," Chancellor Johnson, a sports reporter, wrote on X.
Fans Angry About Texans' Physical Tackling
This has caused very heated discussions on social networks, with fans criticizing what they see as overly aggressive tactics by the Texans in this game.
Only a fortnight ago, Houston linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair ended Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence's season with a late and somewhat controversial hit.
However, in the case of Bullock's hit on DuBose, officials ruled that it was incidental and flagged the cornerback for unnecessary roughness but kept him in the game. Even though the flag was called, some fans are still frustrated about the lack of stricter actions.
Promising Rookie's NFL Journey Takes an Unfortunate Pause
It was just Sunday for DuBose his third game in the NFL, whereas before the injury, he caught the ball one time with a total catches being two. Such a setback is hard to come in for a rookie in whom all hope was resting.
While DuBose's prognosis is stable, the accident presents a cautionary reminder of the bodily pound the NFL exacts from its players. The Dolphins, along with their fans, surely would look forward to the speedy recuperation of their young receiver as the team tries to revive itself from the 20-12 loss at the hands of the Texans.
