Michael Jordan has finally closed the book on his sprawling Chicago-area mansion, selling the Highland Park estate for $9.5 million after 12 years on the market.
Originally listed in 2012 for a staggering $29 million, the final sale price meets a steep discount of 67%, showing that MJ faced a lot of challenges in selling such an iconic yet niche property.
A Mansion Fit for a Champion
Built during Jordan's illustrious tenure with the Chicago Bulls, the luxurious 56,000-square-foot mansion spans seven acres. With gates adorned with his legendary No. 23, the property boasts unparalleled amenities, including the following, according to The New York Post:
- Nine Bedrooms and 19 Bathrooms: Enough to accommodate guests in style.
- Indoor Basketball Court: A tribute to the NBA star's career.
- Cigar Room and Library: Perfect for unwinding in luxury.
- Infinity Pool, Tennis Court, and Gym: Ensuring recreation is never far away.
- Multi-Car Garages: Room for an impressive collection of cars.
- The estate reflected the larger-than-life personality and success of Jordan, and so was a landmark in Highland Park.

A Long Road to Closing
The sale follows years of price cuts and marketing. Originally listed at $29 million, the price was reduced by half to $14.8 million by 2015. Even at these cuts, the right buyer remained elusive.
In September 2024, reports emerged that a deal was being worked on, contingent on nondisclosure agreements, for potential buyers. According to the Wall Street Journal, those who toured the mansion were kept discreet in their efforts.
Jordan's Real Estate Legacy
But despite this latest sale, a part of the Chicago realty is closed to Michael Jordan as he is left with one of the best portfolios when it comes to real estate, with other places he enjoys his private lakeside getaway back home in North Carolina or just by the waterfronts in Florida.
Jordan, who has been retired from the NBA since 2003, has been quite active off the court, from his investments to personal ventures. He was recently seen on vacation in Europe with his wife, Yvette Prieto, whom he married in 2013.
Meanwhile, MJ's former Bulls teammate Scottie Pippen is currently busy with her daughter for their new menswear brand "Unguarded."
