The Aces defeated the Liberty 70-69.

A'ja Wilson continues to make women's basketball history, this time by becoming the first-ever WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a regular season.

On Sunday, Wilson scored her 1,000th point in a win against the Connecticut Sun at the Michelob ULTRA Arena Las Vegas, Nevada, 84-71. The two-time WNBA Most Valuable Player had 29 points and 9 rebounds to help the Las Vegas Aces win its 25th game and sit fourth in the rankings with a 25-13 standing.

Wilson secured her new record with a fadeaway jumper in the fourth quarter of the game, as the home crowd erupted and her teammates celebrated.

It came just days after the 2018 first-overall draft pick broke the previous record for most points scored in a season by Jewell Loyd (939 points) from last season.

A'ja Wilson Expected to Win Third MVP

In 37 games, the 28-year-old does not only have the most points in the season, but she is only three rebounds away from surpassing Angel Reese (446) for most rebounds this season with 444.

The record is made more impressive as she is shooting at 51.9%. Wilson averages 27.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.

All this strengthens the two-time WNBA champion's bid for her third MVP. She previously won the award in 2020 and 2022. She also won Finals MVP in 2023.

The former University of South Carolina star leads the WNBA MVP ladder. It is expected to win against Napheesa Collier (#2) of the Minnesota Lynx, Sabrina Ionescu (#3) and Breanna Stewart (#4) of the New York Liberty, and Alyssa Thomas (#5) of the Connecticut Sun.
