A'ja Wilson is taking huge steps to win her third WNBA MVP award after breaking another record on Wednesday.

The Las Vegas Aces superstar broke the WNBA single-season scoring record after hitting a jumper in the second quarter of the team's match against the Indiana Fever. The shot helped Wilson surpass the previous record of 939 set by Seattle Storm's Jewell Loyd last season.

Ending the game with 27 points and 12 rebounds, Wilson set a new record of 956 points in a single season and counting, with four more games left for the Aces in the regular season.

After the game, the two-time WNBA MVP said she was relieved after achieving the record.

"Felt like it was just like lingering, lingering, lingering, so I'm glad that we got it done," she said, per ESPN.

With the win against the Caitlin Clark-led team, the Aces now rank fourth in the league with a 23-13 record.

Will A'ja Wilson Win Her Third MVP?

Wilson continues her impressive season wherein she's averaging a double-double in points and rebounds: 27.3 points and 11.9 rebounds.

The 6'4" star currently leads the WNBA MVP race after losing out to Breanna Stewart in 2023. She leads the league in points and blocks per game (2.7). She is also second in rebounds, just next to Angel Reese (13.1) and third in steals (1.9).

She also has had two 40-point games this season. If Wilson wins her third MVP, she can add this to her long list of awards, records, and recognitions.

The Aces forward is a two-time WNBA champion (2022, 2023), a two-time MVP (2020, 2022), a two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year (2022, 2023), a six-time WNBA All-Star, and the 2023 Finals MVP.

Other stars in the top five of the WNBA MVP ladder are Napheesa Collier (#2), Sabrina Ionescu (#3), Stewart (#4), and Alyssa Thomas (#5).
