The Philadelphia 76ers are going all out on free agent forward Paul George.
The team is expected to meet with the 34-year-old in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 30, the first day of free agency, as it officially opens at 6 PM ET.
Philadelphia is prepared to offer Paul George a four-year contract worth $212 million, the maximum amount and length they could offer the nine-time NBA All-Star.
The meeting will likely conclude with an agreement, as the Sixers have expressed interest in George since his extension talks with the Los Angeles Clippers stalled.
The Clippers were eligible to offer George a maximum contract of $221 million over four years, but they were unwilling to do so, leading to his contract lapsing into free agency.
Los Angeles Clippers confirm Paul George's departure
Meanwhile, during the first hours of free agency, the Clippers have confirmed that George will not continue with the team for the 2024-25 season.
The Clippers lamented that new CBA rules had prevented them from retaining the 2019 All-NBA First Team member, even with a sign-and-trade route not being plausible due to potential restrictions they would incur.
"We negotiated for months with Paul and his representatives on a contract that would make sense for both sides, and we were left far apart. The gap was significant," the team said in a statement.
