Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is already recruiting reinforcements for the team as he enters his 22nd season in the NBA in 2024-25.

The league's all-time leading scorer reached out to Klay Thompson as soon as free agency started on Sunday, June 30, at 6 PM ET, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

However, Wojnarowski shared on SportsCenter that Thompson is not likely to finalize his decision on the first day of free agency, stating, "These conversations and negotiations will go into tomorrow. There probably will not be a resolution tonight."

Thompson is leaning toward leaving the Golden State Warriors after spending his 13-year career with the franchise. During that time, he won four championships, three of them against James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, and Philadelphia 76ers are also contenders to sign the five-time All-Star.

James is also a free agent but is expected to re-sign with the Lakers. The amount is yet to be determined, as he is willing to take less to help the team sign another quality player.

However, if they don't, the 39-year-old will sign for a max deal worth $160 million over three years.

Klay Thompson's history with the Lakers

Thompson has connections with the Lakers and Los Angeles in general.

The 34-year-old sharpshooter was born in LA as his father, Mychal Thompson, played for the Lakers during the 1980s Showtime era and won two NBA championships in 1987 and 1988.

Mychal currently works on the radio as a color commentator for the Lakers' games.
