The Los Angeles Clippers have made a decision regarding star player James Harden.

The 34-year-old recently completed the final year of his contract during the 2023-24 season, earning $35.6 million and becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Harden has chosen to re-sign with the Clippers on a two-year deal worth $70 million, with the second year being a player option, according to league insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

The ten-time NBA All-Star arrived at the Clippers in the first week of the 2023-24 season in a blockbuster trade after a controversial breakup with his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers, with the Clippers being his preferred destination.

The new deal is essentially the same in terms and length but includes a slight pay raise compared to his previous contract, a two-year deal worth $68.6 million signed with the Sixers ahead of the 2022-23 season.

James Harden's offseason is much smoother this time

Harden's offseason this year was quieter than the tumultuous one he experienced a year ago.

The 2018 NBA Most Valuable Player wanted to leave the Sixers last offseason and opted into his 2023-24 player option with the team, with Philadelphia's front office promising to pursue a trade.

However, Sixers GM Daryl Morey reneged on that promise, leaving Harden stuck with the team. This led to a nasty feud between the two, with Harden calling Morey a liar during an event in China.

The Sixers eventually dealt the six-time All-NBA First Team member after he held out on offseason activities and the initial games of the regular season.
