The Los Angeles Lakers have officially unveiled the jersey numbers of their draft picks from the 2024 NBA Draft, including Bronny James, the firstborn son of star LeBron James.
The 19-year-old combo guard was selected by the team in the second round of the draft with the 55th overall pick.
As revealed on the team's social media accounts, James will wear jersey number 9 in his rookie season.
Wing Sterling Brown last wore the number in a brief four-game stint during a ten-day contract in January 2023.
The Lakers' jersey patch sponsor, Bibigo, also appears to have a new design, removing the illustration of a plate, spoon, and fork in favor of Korean characters.
Meanwhile, shooting guard Dalton Knecht, the team's 17th-round pick in the first round, will wear jersey number 4.
Bronny James' jersey name might have suffix
The Lakers' post also included a jersey mock-up graphic with the wordmark "James Jr." He also wore the suffix during his lone college basketball season with the USC Trojans.
The 6-foot-2 player previously wore the number 6 at USC and 0 during his high school years at Sierra Canyon.
However, the jersey number 6 has already been retired across the entire NBA since the 2022-23 season to honor the late Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell following his passing before that campaign.
However, players who already wore the number were "grandfathered" from the new rule, including his dad, LeBron James.
