It was a double whammy for the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. They not only lost to the Miami Marlins but are now facing the possibility of not having star Bryce Harper in the next few games.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said they are awaiting the results of further tests but suggested that it could be a hamstring injury.
"He just felt his hamstring grab going down the line. Don't know anything more than that," he said after the game. "We'll just have to wait until tomorrow and check him out."
Harper's injury occurred in the late moments of the game when he was running to first base on the final play.
He later told reporters that he felt that his left hamstring tightened during that play and that his current injury is different from what he felt before.
"If I had something to go back on, I would let you know," he said. "But I've never felt anything like this before."
Bryce Harper's All-Star selection and availability
The two-time National League MVP's injury happened on the same day he was confirmed as a starter for the upcoming MLB All-Star Game after topping the initial voting phase with 3,277,920.
This is his eighth selection, with seven of them as a starter.
The event will be held on July 16 at the Texas Rangers' Globe Life Field.
Right now, it can't be determined if Harper will be able to participate in the festivities as his medical tests have not yet been completed.
Fans can take the lead from his statement post-game that he's never felt anything like it, so he can't tell yet how concerned he should be.
