Chicago Bulls fans weren't thrilled that they let Alex Caruso go in a direct swap with the Oklahoma City Thunder for Josh Giddey.

Most people thought they should have gotten more with Caruso's defensive caliber.

Caruso is a defensive juggernaut who helped the Los Angeles Lakers win the 2020 NBA title.

He showed how much of an asset he could be last season, although injuries continuously hampered him.

Turns out, they indeed received more.

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Bulls are creating a $2.8 million Traded Player Exception from the trade deal.

What is a "traded player exception"

It is part of the NBA salary cap rules that allow a team already above the salary cap to offload a player in exchange for a few or no other players.

They can only get this if the receiving team is under the salary cap, in this case, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Bulls won't receive physical money but can use it to sign other players.

OKC was once involved in a trade exception when the Dallas Mavericks swapped Davis Bertans and the 10th overall pick with them for the 12th overall pick and a $17.5 million trade exception.

While this sounds great for the front office, fans are not satisfied. They think the $2.8 million is nothing in this era's NBA salary.

Chicago Bulls fans can only hope that Josh Giddey will rediscover his form and become the star he is predicted to be as the sixth overall pick of 2021.
