The Dallas Mavericks avoided a sweep and extended the 2024 NBA Finals in dominant fashion.

With their backs against the wall, the Mavs responded with a resounding 122-84 win against the Boston Celtics in Game 4, preventing a Celtics championship celebration on their home floor at American Airlines Center on Friday, June 14.

The Mavericks' 38-point drubbing of the Celtics is the third-largest blowout win in NBA Finals history as they cut their series deficit to 1-3.

Their performance tonight only trails the Chicago Bulls' 54-point win over the Utah Jazz in Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals and the Celtics' championship clincher in Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers by 39 points.

Both teams went on to win the title, which is something to keep an eye on for this year's Celtics.

The largest loss in an NBA Finals game where the losing team still won the series occurred in 2013, when the Miami Heat suffered a 36-point defeat against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 but ultimately won the series in seven games.

The Celtics score the fewest points in playoffs

The Celtics' total of 84 points is the fewest they have scored as a team in their dominant 2024 NBA Playoff run, while Dallas' 122 points is their third highest in this year's postseason.

Boston only scored 35 points in the first half, their fewest ever under head coach Joe Mazzulla in the regular season and playoffs.

Game 5 of the series shifts back to Boston on Monday, June 17, at the TD Garden.
