The Los Angeles Lakers are going to great lengths to secure their ideal candidate for their vacant head coaching position.

Following reports that they are targeting current UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley for the move, the franchise plans to entice him with an offer he can't refuse.

The Lakers are reportedly set to offer a lucrative $100 million contract to Hurley spanning eight seasons, according to team insider Anthony F. Irwin of Lakers Daily.

That deal would immediately become the second-largest coaching contract in NBA history, just behind the eight-year, $120 million deal that the Miami Heat handed to Erik Spoelstra earlier this year.

The two-time NCAA Division I champion would earn an average of $12.5 million per season, ranking as the fifth highest in the NBA based on current coaching salary lists.

The Lakers would have to pay UConn for Dan Hurley

Hurley is supposed to enter the second year of a six-year, $32.1 million contract with the UConn Huskies that runs until March 2029.

That deal pays him an average of $5.35 million per NCAA campaign, meaning the Lakers' prospective offer will double his current salary.

However, in the event of an early exit from his UConn post, Hurley would have to pay $1.875 million if he moves to an NBA team and $7.5 million for another NCAA head coaching position.

The Lakers would be willing to pay that amount if they want Hurley, given the contract they're eager to offer to the 51-year-old.
