UConn's Dan Hurley and Lakers Could be a Match Made in Heaven

UConn's head coach Dan Hurley could be taking his talents to the NBA.

The coach who recently brought, not just one, but two National Championships to the University of Connecticut has become a target for the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job, as the franchise has reportedly offered him a large long-term contract.

There still lacks a clear indication that he will accept the job with the Lakers.

However, pairing an elite basketball mind like Dan Hurley with LeBron James and Anthony Davis would excite Lakers fans.

Hurley-James Connection

Looking at the careers of Lebron James and Dan Hurley, one thing is absolutely clear, they are both winners and incredibly competitive individuals.

James has had an impressive career thus far, one that has already spanned over two decades playing at a high level in professional basketball and has won with every team he has played for.

Now you add in Dan Hurley, who has experienced great success as a coach at UConn and other colleges, including his stint with Rhode Island.

Hurley has proven to be a vocal leader and is no stranger to expressing this emotion on the court or during press conferences. He seems like the kind of coach that will challenge James opposed to standing down to him.

They both have won at the highest level within their fields, considering they are masters of basketball Xs and Os; this could be a match made in heaven.

Signing Dan Hurley wouldn't be a move for the immediate present, but one for the future overall.

Considering LeBron James' age and future in Los Angeles, this is a move for years down the line, potentially building a dynasty.

During his time with UConn, Hurley has shown the ability to motivate and galvanize young men.

Who knows where the Lakers will be in the future, but one thing is sure, having a coach like Dan Hurley for the next decade is the right step towards a better tomorrow.

Hurley Adjusting to the NBA

Hurley is an experienced coach who has been able to adjust on the fly. With things up in the air in Los Angeles, he might be the right guy to steer the ship back on course.

He proved this ability with how he used Donovan Clingan throughout his time at UConn. Depending on what kind of center he played against last season, Hurley strategically moved Clingan closer to the rim or to the perimeter when facing more agile bigs.

He draws similarities to some of the best coaches in the NBA, like Erik Spoelstra and Joe Mazzulla. But Hurley's game planning still needs to be able to translate well in the NBA.

Hurley's coaching style would fit in well with James and Davis, who have seen nearly every defensive scheme in the book throughout their careers.

Dan Hurley is going to have to learn and adjust to the high expectations of coaching that LeBron James and the historic Los Angeles Lakers franchise will bring.
