The Los Angeles Lakers have turned their attention to a championship-winning head coach to fill their vacant position.

The team reportedly targets UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley with a massive long-term offer to entice him to join the pro ranks.

Lakers franchise legend Magic Johnson seems to like the potential hiring.

"I heard the great news that Lakers Owner Jeanie Buss and GM/VP of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka have had conversations with back-to-back NCAA champion and current UCONN Head Coach, Dan Hurley, about becoming the next Lakers Head Coach!," the five-time NBA champion posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

The 51-year-old Hurley has been at the helm of the UConn Huskies team that won the past two NCAA Division I national championships, the first repeat champions in college basketball in 17 years.

"I'm so excited and thrilled! This would be a game changer for the Lakers organization, LeBron, AD, the rest of the Laker players, Laker Nation and the NBA! Coach Hurley can coach his butt off lol," Johnson added.

LeBron James showed admiration for Dan Hurley

Meanwhile, Lakers star LeBron James has admired Hurley's work.

The four-time NBA Finals MVP responded last April during an interview with Hurley by another rumored Lakers head coaching candidate and James' podcast co-host, JJ Redick.

"He's so DAMN GOOD!!! Along with his staff. Super creative with their [offense]. Love it," the 39-year-old said.
