A Kansas City Chiefs player is currently dealing with a devastating health scare.

Incoming second-year defensive end B.J. Thompson suffered a seizure that led to cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting at the team's practice facility on Thursday, June 6.

The 25-year-old player's agent, Chris Turnage of United Athlete Sports Agency, visited Thompson in the hospital and provided an update through league insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

"BJ is still unconscious at this point, but he's stable and vitals are good. His family asks for your continued prayers," he stated.

The Chiefs' medical staff present worked quickly before an ambulance was called to bring Thompson to the hospital during that morning. The team canceled all activities scheduled for the rest of the day, which included an OTA practice.

B.J. Thompson won a Super Bowl

Thompson was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft with the 166th overall pick.

The former Baylor and Stephen F. Austin player appeared in only one game during his rookie season, which was in Week 18 against the Los Angeles Chargers. He recorded 2 solo tackles during that January 2024 contest.

The Arkansas native was part of the Chiefs roster that won Super Bowl 58 against the San Francisco 49ers in February 2024.
