The New Orleans Pelicans have decided on the final first-round pick they received from the Los Angeles Lakers when they traded away star Anthony Davis in 2019.

The team is planning to defer the first-round pick until 2025, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

As a result, the Los Angeles Lakers are cleared to select the 17th overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft.

In addition to the 17th overall pick, the Lakers also own the 55th overall pick in the second round of the draft, which is scheduled for two days on June 26 to 27.

During the summer of 2019, the Pelicans sent Anthony Davis to the Lakers in a blockbuster trade in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Lonzo Ball, and three first-round picks.

How did the Pelicans use prior first-round picks from the Anthony Davis trade?

The first of the three first-round picks from the Lakers ended up being the fourth overall pick in 2019, which the Pelicans traded down for the 8th, 17th, and 35th overall picks during the same draft.

The Pelicans selected Jaxson Hayes, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Didi Louzada with those picks, and none of these players are on the team's roster anymore.

In 2022, the Pelicans used the eighth overall pick to draft point guard Dyson Daniels.
