Nuggets: Aaron Gordon's Brother Drew Gordon Passes Away in Car Accident, Victim Played in NBA Briefly

Former NBA player Drew Gordon tragically passed away in a car accident on Thursday, May 30, at the age of 33. He is the older brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon.

The player's agent, Calvin Andrews, confirmed the heartbreaking news to ESPN Andscape journalist Marc J. Spears.

The vehicular accident that took away the life of the 6-foot-9 player took place in Portland, Oregon.

Drew Gordon had a brief stint in the NBA during the 2014-15 season, playing nine games for the Philadelphia 76ers after going undrafted in the 2012 NBA Draft.

During his time with the Sixers, he averaged 1.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.2 assists, and 0.1 steals in 7.9 minutes per game.  

Drew Gordon had colorful career overseas

Gordon played college basketball for UCLA and New Mexico before spending the majority of his professional career overseas in Europe, particularly in Serbia, Italy, Turkey, France, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, and Ukraine. He also spent the final stint of his pro career in Japan.

He was playing for the Kyiv-based club BC Budivelnyk when Russia's invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, forcing him to evacuate the country. 

The San Jose, California native announced his retirement from professional basketball on his 33rd birthday last year. 

The former McDonald's All-American is survived by his wife, Angela, and his young sons, Zane and Brody, per ESPN.
