FC Barcelona is set to finalize the appointment of Hansi Flick as their next manager.
The German coach arrived in the Catalan capital on Tuesday, May 28, and the same evening, had dinner with club President Joan Laporta, Vice President Rafa Yuste, and the board.
Flick is set to officially sign his contract with Barcelona on Wednesday, May 29, according to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 59-year-old's pact with the club is for two seasons and will last until June 2026.
Meanwhile, former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has opted to waive his anticipated salary of approximately €11 million ($11.9 million) for the upcoming season. However, his termination would still incur costs for the club, amounting to €6.5 million ($7.1 million).
These expenses include reimbursing Xavi with €2.5 million ($2.7 million), which he paid to terminate his contract with Qatari side Al Sadd prematurely in November 2021.
Additionally, Barcelona will cover the supposed salaries of Xavi's outgoing assistant coaching staff, which amount to €4 million ($4.3 million).
Hansi Flick's salary at Barcelona
Meanwhile, Flick is expected to earn nearly half of Xavi's previous salary, as he enters the project understanding the club's financial situation.
The German tactician is set to earn a gross salary of €6 million ($6.5 million), which would amount to €3 million ($3.25 million) after taxes.
However, Flick could earn a €1 million bonus if Barcelona wins the Champions League, and a €750,000 bonus for winning La Liga, compared to €300,000 and €150,000 respectively for Xavi.
Moreover, Flick's coaching staff members will earn the same salary as him, €3 million net.
