The Houston Texans are poised to reward one of their wide receivers after his breakout 2023 season and undeniable chemistry with arguably their franchise cornerstone quarterback, CJ Stroud.

The team has agreed to a three-year contract extension for wide receiver Nico Collins, worth $72.75 million with a maximum value of $75 million, according to league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The deal also includes $52 million in guaranteed money and was negotiated and confirmed by veteran NFL agents Drew Rosenhaus, Ryan Matha, and Jason Rosenhaus of Rosenhaus Sports.

Collins was set to hit unrestricted free agency after the 2024 NFL season before this deal was made.

The 25-year-old is coming off a career-best season, during which he recorded 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games, which ranked 23rd, 8th, and 8th in the NFL, respectively.

CJ Stroud and Nico Collins' remarkable chemistry

Collins had a largely unremarkable start to his NFL career after the team selected him in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft with the 89th overall pick.

Before Stroud's arrival to the team, the former Michigan player only had 927 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his first two seasons in the league.

"I never even snapped the ball in the league, but I just know good receivers. I played where we have tremendous receivers. You see what they did," the quarterback said in an interview with the Houston Chronicle about Collins.
